Charming large Victorian Staffordshire flat back spill vase as a russet and white cow and her suckling calf, c.1860. Set on a tall shaped base, naturalistically painted with grassy tussocks and with a little stream running to one side. The spill holder is decorated as a tree trunk. A gilded band around the base and her horns are also gilded. The rear is undecorated.

It measures 29cm (11 3/8'') high and 20cm (8'') by 11.5cm (4 1/2'') wide. Condition is good with a couple of small points to note, there is a small chip to the edge of her right ear and to the inside edge of the right horn. No restoration. There are several fine hairlines in the glaze on her body and paint wear and some wear to the gilding on her horns, black enamel on her nose and the gilded band around the base.
